Medical Liaison
After the death of a loved one, it can be difficult to go through the motions of registering a death, handling the funeral arrangements, and organising the necessary documentation.
At O’Connell Funeral Directors, we make it easy for you. We are a Mallow funeral home family-run business in its 6th generation, with over 120 years of experience in arranging compassionate, dignified funerals that fulfil your every requirement. We will take charge of the medical liaison, ensuring that the death is registered swiftly and problem-free.
What To Do When Someone Passes Away
When someone passes away, their death must be recorded at a civil registration office. This must be done as soon as possible and completed within three months. A death notification form is needed, which can be obtained from the doctor who most recently attended the person.
At Home
When somebody passes away at home, the first call will be to their GP, who may have attended them recently. If it is outside of working hours, a locum doctor may be called and will visit the home to confirm the death. Once a doctor has confirmed the death, funeral arrangements can begin.
In a Hospice or Nursing Home
In a nursing home, hospital, or hospice, a doctor will usually be on hand or called to confirm the death. They will then advise if a post-mortem is required, and if not, you can call Mallow Funeral Home to begin making arrangements.
Sudden Deaths
Sudden deaths can be incredibly jarring and upsetting. The process for beginning funeral arrangements may take longer, as an autopsy may be required.
Registering a death can be incredibly challenging, especially at an upsetting time. At O’Connell Funeral Directors, Mallow, we take all of this off your hands, contacting the appropriate people and arranging for the completion of the death notification form. Although the death must be recorded and registered by the next of kin, we will smooth this process for you and make it as easy as possible.
