Liturgy

At O’Connell Funeral Directors, we can help you organise and arrange a liturgy for the funeral of your loved one. We understand the importance and significance of funeral liturgies and can help you navigate the different options and what readings, psalms, or hymns are most appropriate for the service.

Typically, a funeral liturgy consists of a reading from the Old Testament and a psalm. These may be delivered by the priest, family members or friends of the deceased. We will help you find suitable material that resonates with the life and passions of the deceased.

Popular liturgy choices

You might choose a reading that is specific to the deceased, such as a favourite chapter from a book or a particularly insightful quote. We always strive to involve families as much as they are comfortable with during the service to celebrate the life of the departed – so if there are any readings that you’d like to do, just let us know, and we can help to arrange them for you.
